The real subject

The Junkers Ju 86 is an all-metal twin-engine low-wing monoplane of the first half of the 1930s that was created in a double role: as a transport aircraft and as a bomber. A peculiarity of the first generation were the Junkers Jumo diesel aircraft engines, which promised low consumption but proved delicate in service, so later versions changed to spark-ignition radial engines. The type was exported to a number of countries and in the later development branch Ju 86 P and R it received a pressurized cabin and lengthened wings for flight at high altitude. In shape it is an aircraft with a long slender fuselage and large surfaces on which markings show well.

Working with decals on large surfaces

The Ju 86 has extensive wings and a long fuselage, so long narrow decals of the code letter and band type also go on here. They stretch or tear easily, so carry them to the model supported, best by sliding them off the paper into place rather than with tweezers by the edge. Coat the surface with a gloss clear coat in advance, and while settling them have a soft brush and a paper towel ready for drawing off the excess water. On older molds the surface tends to be rougher; then it pays to sand the spot under the decal lightly and coat it again. Finally flatten everything so that the glossy film disappears.
