The Junkers Ju 86 was a German twin-engine all-metal aircraft of the nineteen-thirties, created at the same time for transport and for bomber service. The P version is its later high-altitude form: it received a pressurized cabin for a crew of two and a wing of markedly greater span. Machines of this version flew to great heights, to which the fighters of the day climbed only with difficulty, and they were used above all for reconnaissance. It is precisely the unusual silhouette with the long, slender wing that makes the Ju 86P a rewarding subject and a rather rare one among models.
This is a plastic kit in 1:72 scale. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and the number of parts and the range of markings offered are given in the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer. In this scale the finished model has a large span, so allow for it when planning space in the display case.
On an aircraft with a long, slender wing, watch the symmetry. Try each wing half dry first and only then glue it, and before the assembly sets, check by eye from the front that both sides have the same dihedral. Clear the parts of excess material and traces of manufacture and sand the mating surfaces. Mask the cabin glazing thoroughly; on a high-altitude version the cabin is exactly what sets the model apart. Apply the finish in several light coats so that the fine surface detail is not filled in.
Paints, glue, filler and masking material are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
