An injection-molded plastic model of the Soviet airliner Kalinin K-5 of the 1930s, in 1:72 scale from Amodel. It is a short-run kit with clear parts for the glazing.
The Kalinin K-5 was a single-engine high-wing airliner which in the 1930s formed the backbone of Soviet domestic air transport. It was built in greater numbers than any other Soviet airliner of its day and carried passengers on scheduled routes. Structurally it followed the mixed technologies of the time, metal, wood and fabric.
As with any short-run kit, count on careful cleanup of the parts, dry-fitting and deliberate gluing, because the parts do not seat as precisely as with the large makers. Deal with the cabin glazing with masking in mind and fit the clear parts at the end. Glue the plastic with liquid cement for plastic, then fill and sand the joints. Apply a primer before painting and spray the colors with an airbrush in thin coats; the large expanses of covering reward an even coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
