A masking set for spraying the national insignia and unit markings on a Mitsubishi Ki-21-Ib Sally model in 1:72 scale, the ICM kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mitsubishi Ki-21, known to the Allies under the code name Sally, was a Japanese twin-engine bomber that served from the second half of the 1930s. The Ki-21-Ib form belongs to the first production series of this type; the letter after the Roman numeral distinguishes the individual production forms. Japanese machines carried prominent national insignia and colored unit markings, which on a model make up a substantial part of the final impression.
Masking parts for spraying the national insignia and unit markings on the Mitsubishi Ki-21-Ib kit in 1:72 scale from ICM. The insignia are therefore not applied as decals but sprayed directly onto the surface of the model.
The masks are applied only to a finished and dry base coat, never to fresh paint. Press the edges down firmly, so that paint cannot creep under them, and spray in several thin coats. Lift the mask off as soon as the paint has set. A sprayed insignia has no glossy film and no carrier membrane edge, so it keeps the same degree of sheen as the finish around it.
The set suits modelers who are bothered by the glossy edges of decals and want their markings genuinely sprayed. It calls for a little practice with an airbrush and for patience in placing the parts, because the position of an insignia cannot be corrected once it has been applied. It pays to mark out lightly in advance where the insignia is to go.
The package contains the masking parts only. The kit and the paints are not included, unless stated otherwise.
