The model therefore captures a design solution according to surviving project documentation, not an existing vehicle. Zebranomodel specializes in unusual Soviet subjects in the small scales, where you will find no competing kit elsewhere. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The KV-5 was a project for a superheavy tank prepared in Leningrad in 1941 as a continuation of the KV line of heavy machines. The design reckoned on markedly more massive armor and on a combat weight in the order of a hundred tons, that is on figures that lay at the limit of what the powerplants and transmissions of the day could do. A characteristic feature of the project was an exceptionally tall hull and a separate smaller cupola for the driver, placed ahead of the main turret. Work on the project was broken off in connection with the way the situation around Leningrad developed, and a prototype was never completed. The KV-5 thus belongs among the paper projects that survive only in documentation.
Look all the parts over before building and try the fit dry. With specialized output in small batches more sanding and filling tends to be needed than with mass production, so reckon on it. If the parts are cast, wash them in lukewarm water with detergent, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and glue them with cyanoacrylate — ordinary cement for plastic does not work on resin. Apply a primer before painting; it will also reveal any unfinished seams. The large continuous surface of the armor takes shade modulation well: brighten the base on the upper surfaces and darken it back with a thin wash into the recesses. Add dust pigments to the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
