This short-run plastic kit from UM captures the single-turret version of the T-26 light tank with a cylindrical turret. The set is intended to be assembled and painted and suits a display cabinet as well as part of a smaller diorama.
The T-26 was derived under license from the British Vickers Mk.E tank and became the standard infantry tank of the Soviet army in the 1930s. The first series had two separate turrets with machine guns; the turning point came with the single-turret version with a cylindrical turret and a 45 mm gun, which gave the machine real firepower. The T-26 chassis also served as the basis for a range of derived vehicles: command, chemical and engineer versions and self-propelled mounts. In the second half of the 1930s the T-26 was the most widespread Soviet tank, and in this form it also appeared in export deliveries.
The cylindrical turret with its rear bustle stands at the center of attention, so take the time to clean it up: fill the joints and check the shape against the light after sanding. The running gear with its small rollers is delicate on this type and parts are easily lost, so work over a tray with a raised edge. Painting is straightforward: a primer, a uniform green, a dark wash into the recesses, lightening of the upper surfaces and dust on the fenders and the running gear. In a small scale, less is more: heavy effects do not look credible.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
