An Eduard mask set for a model of the Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II in 1:72 scale. Pre-cut masks take the place of tedious taping.
Responsibility details are not available.
The masks are pre-cut into the shape you need to cover on the model, so cutting strips of tape and painstakingly fitting them into curves falls away. On aircraft models mask sets are aimed above all at the glazed areas of the canopy, where the whole impression the finished model makes rests on a sharp separation of frame from glass. What exactly the set contains is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The F-35B Lightning II is the version of the American fifth-generation combat aircraft adapted for short takeoff and vertical landing. Behind the cockpit it carries a lift fan and the rear nozzle swivels downward, thanks to which the machine does without a long runway. The external shapes are subordinated to reducing the radar signature, so on a model it is above all the large smooth surfaces and precisely kept edges that stand out.
First free the surface of dust and grease; on a soiled surface the mask will not sit down and the paint will creep under it. Lift the mask off the backing with the tip of a knife or with tweezers, lay it in place and press the edges down along their whole length, especially in the curves. Spray perpendicular to the surface and in thin coats. Remove the mask shortly after the paint has set, not after several days, and pull it slowly at an angle back over itself rather than straight up. On glazed areas it pays to go over the applied mask once more with a fingernail or a toothpick before spraying.
A mask set is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
