The important thing right at the start: this is not a kit. It is a finished collector model of the armored personnel carrier M113A1 in the ACAV configuration, assembled and painted at the factory, including the markings stated in the name. You unpack it and set it on a shelf; you need no glue, paints, abrasive paper or knife. In 1:72 scale it is a small model that fits easily into a display case and among other equipment in the same scale.
The M113 is a tracked armored personnel carrier with a hull of aluminum alloy, designed as a light, air-transportable vehicle for carrying infantry. The A1 version is one of the early modernizations. The abbreviation ACAV marks a field conversion in which the carrier received shields around the gunner stations and additional armament, so that the vehicle moved from being a mere means of transport into a role in which it had to be able to fire from where it stood. Vehicles in this configuration are characteristic for a modeler precisely in that structure above the hull.
A finished model has its surface finish applied at the factory, so treat it rather as a collector's item than as a model for further work. Remove dust from it with a soft brush or a blower, not with a cloth: fine antennas and brackets bend easily. Do not use thinners and cleaners, as they could attack the finish. Collectors who want to tune the model sometimes apply light weathering to it, but that is an intervention at your own risk and it is irreversible.
The model is supplied finished, assembled and painted at the factory. It is not a kit and requires neither gluing nor painting.
