New Ware 1:72 mask set — English Electric Lightning F.2A and F.6, the ADVANCED form

Self-adhesive, machine-cut masks for the model of the British supersonic fighter Lightning in the F.2A and F.6 versions, 1:72 scale. The ADVANCED form is the middle step of the range: compared with the basic set it widens the extent of masking by further areas, but it does not reach the breadth of the highest step. It is not a kit but an accessory for the build. The masks are cut for the Airfix kit.

The middle way between speed and detail

The basic set deals mainly with the glazing, while the highest step takes in a markedly wider range of areas and is the most demanding on time. The middle step is a compromise for the builder who wants more than a clean cockpit alone but does not want to spend a whole month over one model. It makes sense above all when you are building a model for a display case and it matters to you that the sprayed edges look uniform.

Recommended procedure

• Plan the order of the colors before you apply the first mask; with a multi-step set the whole procedure rests on it.
• Apply the masks intended for the base coat only onto a dried base, not onto bare plastic.
• Always let the paint dry properly between coats — a coat that has not dried through tears when the mask is removed.
• Keep the offcuts of the sheet, as they come in useful for masking small things the set does not deal with.

• Builders of British postwar equipment in 1:72 scale.
• Those who want even the parts they would otherwise deal with by brush to be sprayed.

This is an accessory for the build, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
