The BASIC level denotes the scope of the set: it is the basic and smallest variant, which deals with the main masking work during painting. The extended levels of the same range hold more ready-made masks. The set is cut to the shape of the parts of one specific kit, the Hasegawa E18.
The F/A-18F Super Hornet is the two-seat standard of the twin-engine carrier-borne multirole aircraft. Against the single-seat version it has a lengthened cockpit for two crew members in tandem, which on the model shows up as a longer and more intricate canopy with more frames. It is exactly that detail which makes masking more laborious than on the single-seat version.
A longer tandem cockpit means more frames of varying width and several transitions between the fixed and the hinged part of the canopy. Hand-cut tape does not keep a constant width here and breaks up at the transition. The pre-cut masks have shapes matching the parts, so the frames come out symmetrical and the edges sharp. The time saved is noticeable above all for modelers who build several examples of the same type.
This is a mask set, not a model. Paints, glue and the plastic kit are not included in the package.
