The basic mask set for building the Yak-130 in 1:72 scale. It holds self-adhesive cut masks for the main masked places, that is above all for the canopy glazing. The BASIC designation means the smallest grade of extent in the range. The subject is a two-seat trainer and light combat aircraft with tandem seating, so the cockpit is long and there are more frames on it than on a single-seat machine. The masks are cut for the Zvezda 7307 kit.
A long canopy with several transverse frames is exactly the case where cutting tape by hand takes the most time and where mistakes happen most often. Every frame is cut separately, and all it takes is for one to go astray by a tenth of a millimeter for the unevenness to show from a distance. A cut mask removes that problem, because all the frames have a uniform width set by the original.
Degrease the glazing first and let it dry. Take the mask off with tweezers, lay it in place and smooth the edges with a toothpick. In 1:72 scale the strips are very thin, so work in a well-lit place and preferably with a magnifier. Spray in light coats and from an adequate distance, as a heavy coat is drawn under the edge. Lift the mask off as soon as the paint is dry to the touch.
The set holds only the masks. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
