This item is not an aircraft kit but a set of precisely cut self-adhesive masks. It serves to mask the clear parts of a model, that is above all the frames and areas of the canopy, so that the glazing stays clean after spraying and the frames have sharp edges. With a canopy broken up in shape, with a fixed windscreen and a sliding section, masking by hand with tape is slow and the result tends to be uneven; a pre-cut mask shortens this step dramatically. The masks are cut for the Airfix kit.
The MiG-17 is a Soviet subsonic fighter created at the beginning of the 1950s as a development of the MiG-15. It received a new, more markedly swept wing and a modified rear fuselage, which improved its behavior at high speeds, where its predecessor had trouble with stability. The MiG-17F version was the most widespread and was the first to receive an engine with an afterburner, which noticeably improved the rate of climb. The aircraft was also built under license in Poland and China and served in dozens of countries long after the end of its Soviet career.
Apply the masks to a clean, degreased part, helping yourself with tweezers and a pointed toothpick so that the edges settle into the engraved frames. Press the edges down firmly, otherwise paint will creep under them. Spray in thin coats, because a heavy application leaves a step at the edges. Remove the mask shortly after the finish has dried, because after a longer time the paint may come away with it. Cover the rest of the glazing with masking compound or tape so that it does not gather dust.
The package contains masks only. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
