The MiG-21bis is the last large production version of the Soviet single-seat supersonic fighter MiG-21. The recognition feature of the whole family is a slender fuselage with a circular nose intake and a delta wing. The aircraft entered the armament of a number of states including Czechoslovakia and to this day it is among the most frequently built subjects of all. The cockpit is cramped and the instrument panel takes up a large part of the view in it, so it is precisely the panel that carries a substantial part of the impression of the interior on a model.

They have a three-dimensional relief and are supplied finished in color, so painting the dials and levers falls away, and in this scale they are barely possible to hold in tweezers at all. Against a flat decal the element has thickness, and therefore under a clear canopy it casts a shadow like real fittings.
It is only the backing paper under the element that is moistened, ideally with a damp sponge and a drop of detergent. As soon as the paper softens, lift the element off it with tweezers and seat it in a thin layer of white PVA glue; the manufacturer does not recommend cyanoacrylate glue. Do not use a decal softener, as it would damage the printed surface. First rid the area the elements will seat on of grease and let the base color harden properly. Lay the element on by one edge first and then press the rest down gradually, so that no air is left under it. On convex surfaces a blunt tool and gentle pressure from the center outward will help. Spraying matte varnish over it at the end will level the gloss with the surroundings.
For modelers who build the MiG-21bis in a small scale and do not want to fob the cockpit off with a single shade of gray. It also suits those who have a model part-built and are looking for a quick improvement of the interior with no further construction work. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
