Masking stencils for the MiG-21F-13

The set contains masking stencils for a model of the MiG-21F-13 in 1:72 scale. The stencils are cut to shape, so the tedious cutting of tape and the fitting of narrow strips around curves is no longer needed. It is precisely on small curves that hand-cut masking most often goes wrong and the canopy frame then comes out unevenly wide.

The real subject

The MiG-21F-13 is an early version of the Soviet MiG-21 fighter. You will recognize it by the slender fuselage with a circular air intake in the nose and a movable cone in the middle, by the delta wing and by the small area of glazing. The type was also built under license in Czechoslovakia by Aero Vodochody as the S-106, so Czechoslovak-operated machines are among its subjects.

How to use the stencils

• clean and degrease the surface before masking and let it dry thoroughly
• stick the stencils on before spraying and press the edges down along their whole length
• cover the open areas inside the outline with tape or masking compound
• apply the paint in thin coats; a heavy coat creeps under the edge
• take the stencils off once the paint has dried, with tweezers and at a sharp angle

This is a masking set for a kit. The aircraft model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise. The manufacturer's instructions state the extent of the set and the kit it is cut for.
