A set of three-dimensional decals of the SPACE range from the Czech brand Eduard for the cockpit of a MiG-21PF model in 1:72 scale. The package contains decals only, no plastic or resin parts of the aircraft. The base kit has to be obtained separately.
It is precisely in 1:72 scale that the cockpit is so tiny that the instruments can hardly be painted by hand and photo-etched parts are difficult to bend. SPACE decals have a noticeable thickness, so even on a small area they create the impression of raised dials and controls. The detail stays readable even under a fitted canopy, only slightly distorted by the glazing. The scope of the package and the placement of the individual decals are described in the enclosed instructions.
The MiG-21PF was an interceptor with a delta wing and a radar in the cone of the air intake. It was among the first versions of the MiG-21 adapted for all-weather flight and differed from the earlier machines in the layout of the cockpit and the instrument fit. Before buying, therefore, check that your kit represents exactly the PF version.
In 1:72 scale it is essential to work in good light and with a magnifier or magnifying glasses. Moisten only the backing paper under the element, a sponge with a drop of detergent is enough, move the element with sharp tweezers, ideally with bent jaws, and seat it only lightly with a wooden stick, so that the relief is not crushed. Paint the cockpit beforehand and let it dry. The technique differs from waterslide decals: the element is fixed with PVA white glue and a decal softener does not belong on it, as its chemicals would attack the printed resin.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a stand-alone model. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
