A set of pre-cut masking templates in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker New Ware. It is not a model and not a kit — it is an accessory a modeler buys for a model he already owns, in order to mask the glazing and other areas before spraying. The masks are die-cut from so-called kabuki tape, a thin Japanese paper material with slightly elastic fibers. It can be laid into mildly convex surfaces without creasing and leaves no adhesive behind when it is removed. The designation EXPERT is used by the manufacturer for a more extensive version of the set than the basic range. The masks are cut for the ICM kit.
The MiG-25BM was a specialized version of the Soviet high-speed MiG-25 family, adapted for the suppression of ground radars. It differed from the fighter and reconnaissance versions in the equipment of the forward fuselage and in its ability to carry anti-radiation guided missiles. The design was based on welded steel, two powerful engines and wedge air intakes, which gave the machine very high speed at high altitude. The series built was small compared with the fighter versions.
Lift the mask off its backing with pointed tweezers or a scalpel, lay it on a clean, degreased surface and press it down with a soft tool from the center toward the edges. Press the edges at the canopy frames down with particular care — that is where paint creeps under most often. Before painting, it pays to spray over the edge of the mask with a coat of the interior color or with clear, which will seal any creep. Spray in several thin coats; a heavy coat will build a step at the edge. Remove the mask as soon as possible after it has dried, ideally not after weeks, when the adhesive has aged.
This is an accessory for a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
