The instrument panel and the side panels of the upgraded MiG-29 SMT (9-19) in 1:72 scale are finished in a moment with this Eduard SPACE set. The colored 3D decals are an accessory for a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
An instrument panel in 1:72 scale is only a few millimeters across, so painting the individual dials by hand is work for a steady hand and a lot of patience. The SPACE line gets around that problem with layered printing: the decal carries color as well as relief, and once applied it looks like carefully worked detail. The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model.
The designation 9-19 belongs to the upgraded version of the Fulcrum known as the SMT. The most conspicuous difference from the original MiG-29 is the enlarged dorsal spine, which took another fuel tank and with it a greater range. The upgrade also affected the cockpit markedly: the pilot received multifunction displays in place of some of the classic dials, and the aircraft gained wider scope for use against ground targets. That is exactly why the interior deserves attention on this version, even though the model is small.
In a small scale the preparation decides. Spray the cockpit tub, polish it with gloss clear and work with sharp tweezers. Moisten only the backing paper and not the part itself, so that it comes off the backing without pulling. Set it into a drop of PVA glue and adjust the position with a damp brush. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin. Once dry, flatten the surface with a matte coat so that the film does not shine.
