The year 1993 closed the chapter of the delta-winged Mirage machines with the Belgian Air Force, and the last machines flew out their service in a special farewell treatment. The two-seat training example with the code BD12 was among them, and this sheet works up its appearance of that time.
Unlike jubilee coats, which celebrate the anniversary of a unit, here it is a last farewell to a type. Such treatments therefore usually add to the usual covering camouflage lettering with years, the badges of all the units that operated the machine and sometimes even the signatures of the personnel. The base stays the original one, so a modeler first builds an ordinary-looking aircraft and adds the farewell elements only at the end.
In terms of color it is thus a combination of a sober base with colorful additions, which is pleasant for a modeler: the main finish is sprayed without sharp transitions and all the attention shifts to the final phase. At the same time it means that a mistake in the position of a piece of lettering cannot be hidden under another layer of paint.
The two-seat version has longer glazing than the combat one and a differently routed spine, which changes the position of the markings around the cabin. Align the lettering by the frames of the canopy, therefore, not by the distance from the nose. The quantity of small elements tempts one to do everything in one evening, but freshly settled print is awkward to reach over; divide the work into two sittings and let everything dry thoroughly in between. Aging suits the whole more than with display machines, because machines at the end of their career tended to be noticeably worn.
