Mask set 1:72 Mirage F.1 (single-seat version)

Pre-cut self-adhesive masks in 1:72 scale for covering the clear parts of a model of the French supersonic Mirage F.1 fighter in its single-seat form. The set is prepared to the shape of the parts, so masking is a matter of sticking them on and pressing them down, not of measuring and cutting.

A large canopy calls for a precise edge

Against older types the Mirage F.1 has a relatively clean canopy with few frames and large areas of glass. It is precisely with a shape like that that hand masking is treacherous. A long straight edge cut with scissors is never perfectly straight, and on a large area every deviation shows. A cut mask holds the line of the frame exactly and the spray produces a transition as sharp as the surrounding surface of the model has. At the same time the glass stays protected under the mask from overspray, fingerprints and small scratches during further handling.

Usage tips

• Mask only after polishing and any dipping of the clear parts in a polish, not before.
• On large areas choose an inner fill of masking tape or a piece of paper tissue so that no mask material is wasted.
• Lay a thin coat of the cockpit base shade down before the color, and the camouflage over it. Any bleed will then not show.
• Lift the mask off with a sharp point from a corner, not by dragging it across the whole area of the glass.
