About product

Quickboost 1:72 de Havilland Mosquito – Undercarriage Covers

Replacement resin detail parts from the Quickboost line by the Czech company Aires. The set replaces the undercarriage covers — the landing gear bay doors — on a model of the bomber and fighter-bomber de Havilland Mosquito in 1:72 scale. This is not an aircraft model; the plastic kit is not included in the package and must be owned separately.

Why resin pays off

On the real aircraft, the undercarriage covers are just a thin panel with a pressed internal stiffener. Injection-molded plastic, though, is always unnecessarily thick at this scale — and it shows most from behind, since the doors sit open on a parked aircraft and their edge is visible. The resin casting can be genuinely thin with a sharp edge, and it also carries fine relief on the inner face. A model built with the gear down finally looks properly fitted, not off the shelf.

The real subject

The de Havilland Mosquito was a British twin-engine combat aircraft famous for having a mostly wooden structure — hence the nickname Wooden Wonder. It was precisely its light wooden shell that gave it exceptional speed: at the time of its service it was among the fastest aircraft in the sky, and it often outran fighters on speed alone. It served as a fast bomber, night fighter, reconnaissance aircraft and attack aircraft.

Use

  • Cut the parts from the casting blocks; with thin covers, go especially carefully, since they crack easily.
  • Level the cut surfaces by sanding wet and with respiratory protection — resin dust must not be inhaled.
  • Wash the parts in warm water with dish soap to remove residue from the mold release agent.
  • Glue with cyanoacrylate (super glue); plastic cement does not bond to resin.
  • Apply a primer, then the interior color of the bays, and finally the outer camouflage.

Who the set is for

For modelers building the Mosquito in 1:72 scale with the landing gear extended who want to remove the most noticeable plastic compromise — the thickness of the doors. Given its small scope, it is a small-scope upgrade with a very good effect-to-effort ratio.

An accessory, not a kit. Sand wet with respiratory protection. Cyanoacrylate glue, primer, paints and the base model are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. This is only replacement resin undercarriage covers. You must own the plastic Mosquito kit in 1:72 scale separately.

Yes. The landing gear doors sit open on a parked aircraft and their edge is clearly visible from the side and rear. The plastic part is necessarily thick, while the resin one can be as thin as sheet metal — and it is exactly at the edge that the difference shows most.

Separate them from the casting block, level them by sanding wet with respiratory protection, wash them in warm water with dish soap (to remove mold release residue), and glue with cyanoacrylate. Apply a primer before painting.

A wooden shell structure saved strategic metals, allowed furniture workshops to be brought into production, and at the same time gave the aircraft low weight, which made it one of the fastest aircraft of its day.
