1:72 Nakajima Ki-49-I national insignia is a set of pre-cut masks for the national insignia of the Japanese Ki-49-I bomber in 1:72 scale. The markings are sprayed with paint; no decal is applied. Made by Dead Design.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for modelers who want their national insignia sprayed with paint. Against a decal this approach has two practical advantages: the marking has no carrier film, so it cannot silver at the edge, and it holds even on a large wing or fuselage area, where a decal tends to be hardest to manage. It is not a kit but an accessory to a particular model.
The Nakajima Ki-49 was a twin-engine bomber of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force, which kept the code name Helen among the Allies. It entered service as the successor to an older type and was meant to stand out above all for better defense and armor, which came at the cost of load and range. The Ki-49-I version is the first production form, which differs from the later machines in its powerplant and in details of its armament. That is exactly why it pays to keep an eye on which subversion you are building, with masks as with decals.
The surface under the insignia must be smooth and degreased. Press the mask down all the way around and spray the paint perpendicularly, in thin coats, so that it does not flow under the edge. On a dark finish it pays to spray a light base first. Lift the mask off while the layer of paint is still flexible, and at the end fix the finished marking by varnishing, so that it merges with its surroundings.
