About product

The real subject

The Bell P-39 Airacobra was an American fighter with an unusual layout: the engine lay behind the pilot's back and drove the propeller through a long shaft running under the cockpit floor. That gave the aircraft a nose wheel at a time when a tailwheel was the rule, and the cockpit was entered through doors in the sides, as in a car. The N version was among the later production marks. The cockpit stays clearly visible on a finished model precisely because of the glazed side doors, so the interior shows here more than on machines with a sliding canopy.

What the set contains

The set brings colored 3D printed interior elements shaped to the parts of the RS Models kit in 1:72 scale. The elements carry printed color as well as raised relief, so a smooth plastic part gains depth without painting. Each element is carried on decal paper, from which it slides off once soaked. The placement of the individual parts is shown in the enclosed instructions.

How the elements are applied

The elements of the QD range have no adhesive layer of their own. Cut the part out, leave it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it off the backing paper into place. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer; they would attack the printed resin. The surface under the element must be smooth, degreased and coated with gloss varnish, on which the element holds; on an intricate spot a drop of super glue helps. Transfer the element with tweezers and press it down with a cotton swab from the middle toward the edges. Sand down any raised detail on the part that the element is to lie over, so that it seats flat.

Who it is for

The set suits the modeler building the Airacobra from RS Models who wants a legible cockpit without laboriously painting small details. The package contains interior elements; the kit, paints, glue and tools are not included, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yes. Leave the cut-out part in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it off the backing paper into place. Do not use a decal softener; it would attack the print.

It is shaped to the P-39N model in 1:72 scale from RS Models.

The cockpit was entered through glazed doors in the sides, so it can be seen into better on a finished model than on aircraft with a sliding canopy.

The elements carry color and relief; you only need to paint in the surfaces the film does not cover.
