This resin detail set from the Aires brand replaces the wheel wells, the landing gear bays, of the American fighter and ground-attack aircraft the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt in 1:72 scale. It is not a model of the airplane, but an accessory for experienced modelers that lifts the simplified plastic bays from the kit to faithful castings with fine detail of stiffeners, piping and runs. The wells are among the well visible areas of a model with the undercarriage retracted as well as extended.
The P-47 Thunderbolt was one of the heaviest single-seat fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by a mighty Pratt and Whitney R-2800 radial engine with a turbocharger, thanks to which it excelled at high altitude and as a tough fighter-bomber. Its heavy armament of machine guns and its ability to carry bombs and rockets made it a feared machine for attacks on ground targets.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water and rid them of mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the surfaces with respiratory protection. Try the fit dry before gluing and adjust the mating surfaces if necessary. Glue with super glue (cyanoacrylate); the details in the bays come out once they are painted and gently brought out.
The set is supplied as parts of resin, unassembled and unpainted. It is not a model of the airplane, but an accessory to a plastic kit. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
