A plastic kit of the American fighter P-51B Mustang in 1:72 scale. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
Responsibility details are not available.
The P-51B is the version of the Mustang with which the aircraft became an escort fighter able to go with the bomber formations all the way to the target and back. What decided it was the British Merlin engine, a V12, built for the American Mustangs under license by Packard; the earlier versions with the American engine did not have the performance at high altitude. The B version still keeps the original fuselage spine with the glazing set into frames, that is the shape before the later bubble canopy. It was exactly that spine that worsened the view to the rear, and some of the machines therefore received a bulged canopy.
This is a plastic kit in 1:72 scale, that is a model that fits in the hand. The part count, the contents of the decal sheet and the choice of color schemes are given in the enclosed instructions from the manufacturer. In this scale the Mustang comes out at about sixteen centimeters of span, so it fits even into a smaller display case.
Work from the back forward: the cockpit is painted and set in place before the fuselage is closed, because after that you cannot get to it. Dry-fit the parts first and sand the joints down once the glue has dried, so that they are not visible on the finished model. Mask the glazing before spraying. On a smooth all-metal aircraft it is worth spraying a base coat and devoting one extra layer to smoothing the surface, because every unevenness shows under a gloss.
The kit is supplied in an unassembled state. Paints, glue and tools are not included, unless stated otherwise.
