A set of resin barrels for the onboard guns of the American Northrop P-61A Black Widow night fighter in 1:72 scale from Quickboost. It is not an airplane model, but precisely cast detail parts that replace the thicker plastic barrels from the base kit with thinner and crisper castings.
The P-61 Black Widow was a heavily armed night fighter with a twin-boom layout and a radar in the nose. Its armament consisted of a battery of cannon in the belly of the fuselage and, in some machines, a dorsal gun turret as well. Plastic barrels tend to be coarse at a small scale and are easily damaged; the resin replacements are more slender, have clean shapes and can easily be completed with a drilled muzzle for maximum fidelity.
Resin parts call for more careful preparation: wash them free of mold release residue in lukewarm soapy water, separate them carefully from the casting block and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue; protect your airways when sanding. Paint the barrels from dark metal to blued steel, bring out the edges gently with a dry brush and, if you like, suggest the muzzle with a darker dot.
The part is supplied as a resin accessory, unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
