This set from the SPACE line of the Czech manufacturer Eduard is intended for modelers who want legible instruments and colored areas in the cabin of the large patrol flying boat without slow hand painting. It is not a kit and not a standalone model but an accessory for a model in 1:72 scale. The SPACE line is built on decals that come in color, are lifted with tweezers off moistened carrier paper and take the place of fine hand painting.
The Martin PBM Mariner was an American twin-engine patrol and anti-submarine flying boat with a characteristic gull wing and twin vertical tails. In the service of the US Navy it escorted convoys, hunted submarines and took part in rescuing survivors at sea. The PBM-5A version was the postwar amphibious conversion with retractable wheeled landing gear, so the aircraft could operate from water as well as from a hard runway. In this form it served on after the end of the war.
Prepare a smooth, single-color base, ideally coated with gloss clear. Moisten only the carrier paper, carry the decals over with tweezers and set them into PVA white glue. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin and ruin the element. A matte clear then evens the whole out. It pays to try dry beforehand where each part of the cabin belongs, because once the fuselage is glued up you cannot reach the interior.
