An injection-molded plastic kit of the light strut-braced high-wing Piper L-4H, the military form of the popular Cub. The model from the Czech maker Smer is an undemanding classic kit with a manageable part count, suitable even for a single long modeling evening. It is supplied to be glued together and painted.
The Piper L-4 was the military version of the civil Piper Cub light aircraft. During the Second World War it served as an observation, liaison and artillery spotting machine, nicknamed the Grasshopper. Thanks to its low landing speed and its ability to operate from improvised strips it became the indispensable eye of the ground units. The L-4H version belonged to the later production batches.
The cabin glazing is prominent, so it pays to finish and paint the interior first. Glue the wing struts only once the fuselage and the wing have dried, so that the angles sit right. Glue the plastic with thin cement. For the overall olive cast use a matte covering color and bring out the panel lines and the fabric covering gently with a wash and dry-brushing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
