The F-84G was the last and most numerous version of the straight-wing Thunderjet. Besides armament for supporting ground forces it was marked by its wingtip tanks and the ability to refuel in flight. During the 1950s it entered service with a number of European states, which thus moved from piston aircraft straight to jets. The Portuguese Air Force was among the users of this version.
