The set 1:72 Metro DPP fire unit, City of Prague 1980 brings the subject of the fire unit of the Prague metro at the start of the 1980s.
Responsibility details are not available.
A subject you do not commonly come across in a modeling range. The operation of the metro in Prague was provided by Dopravni podnik hlavniho mesta Prahy (DPP), the Prague public transport company, and part of its support was fire protection, which was responsible for the underground railway and its technical installations. The 1:72 ratio makes it possible to set the figures in a scene with vehicles and with elements of a station.
The year 1980 falls in the time when the Prague metro had already been running for several years and its network was continuing to expand. Operating underground called for fire protection of its own, because an incident in a tunnel or a station differs from one on the surface in access, in ventilation and in equipment. It is precisely this connection with the service that makes the subject a rewarding basis for an unhackneyed diorama.
The turnout gear, the helmet and the footwear form three markedly different surfaces, and it is precisely their difference that makes the result convincing. Leave the helmet smooth and faintly glossy, and on the contrary make the textile matte and add a faint dark coat into the folds. Hold the dirt back; on a unit from a technical installation a light soiling of the lower part looks more credible than an overall grimy figure. Keep the lighting of the scene rather cold, because colors behave differently underground than in daylight.
