A whole range of aircraft had the fuselage, the wings or the propellers made of plywood and natural wood. Painting such a texture by hand is demanding, so a decal with a realistic drawing of the growth rings will simplify and unify the build considerably. The darker variant suits an older or more heavily weathered appearance.
Paint the surface underneath in a light wood tone and overcoat it with gloss varnish. Apply the decal in sections with a softener, so that the pattern settles without bubbles and without silvering; unify the transitions with glazes and finish with a semi-gloss overcoat.
