The Special Navy 1:72 radar mast for the PT-579 and PT-588 boats is a resin accessory for a model of a torpedo boat, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a resin add-on set in 1:72 scale from the brand Special Navy. Its content is a radar mast for a model of an American torpedo boat in the form matching the PT-579 and PT-588 craft. It is not a kit of the boat but a single detail with which a finished model is completed, or which replaces a simplified plastic part.
On a small, low boat the radar mast is the highest-set and most conspicuous structure — the eye runs over it first. In injection-molded plastic it tends to be simplified because of the mold, and the members have a disproportionately thick section. A resin replacement allows finer shapes and more faithful proportions, which in 1:72 scale shows at once on so small a craft. The set fits into a wider range of small accessories that the manufacturer makes for these boats, so it can be combined with further parts.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry. Cut the casting block off with a sharp blade or a fine saw, and sand wet and with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; on a tall and slender structure make sure the mating surface is flat, otherwise the mast will not stand upright. It pays to paint it separately, before it is glued on — once fitted, the lower part is hard to reach. At the end a very fine weathering helps, emphasizing the edges and suggesting the strain that service at sea puts on the structure.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
