Replacement tracks for a model of the German heavy tank Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf.E, that is the machine known by the name Tiger I. The running gear is visible in its entirety from the side and the track takes up the largest continuous area on it, so swapping it for a separately made part shows at first glance.
The Tiger I was a German heavy tank deployed from 1942. It carried an 88 mm gun, heavy frontal armor and running gear with interleaved road wheels in three overlapping rows. The combat tracks were so wide that with them the vehicle did not fit within the loading gauge permitted on the railway; narrower tracks were therefore fitted for transport and the outer row of wheels was removed.
A separately made track tends to be more legible even in a small scale, in the pattern of the ground-contact face, in the teeth and in the definition of the openings. Crisper edges moreover respond better to painting: a wash stays where it belongs, and a dry brush brings out the polished places that would merge with their surroundings on a soft part.
Cut the excess material off a short way from the part with a sharp blade and sand the remainder. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Dry-fit them: on this running gear the upper run of the track lies on the wheels, so it should not sag as on vehicles with return rollers. Adapt the glue and the procedure to the material of the parts according to the manufacturer's instructions.
The package contains tracks. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
