A sheet of decals in 1:72 scale from the British manufacturer Xtradecal. It is not built around one type of aircraft but around one unit: it follows the markings of No. 74 Squadron RAF, known by the nickname Tiger, over the span of years given in the name. The package contains the decals alone, and neither a model nor plastic parts are part of it.
Over the course of their existence squadrons pass through several types of aircraft and, with them, several forms of marking. The emblems and the colored bands of the unit nonetheless stay recognizable and carry over from one type to another, if in a different form and placement. A sheet of this kind therefore usually offers markings for several different machines from different periods. The particular types and years are given on the printed sheet supplied with the decals.
Unit emblems are generally applied to both sides of a model, and any asymmetry shows at once. Measure the position of the decal against a fixed point, typically a panel line or a leading edge, and use the same dimension on the other side. As long as there is water under the film, the decal can be moved freely, so the position is fine-tuned on the model and not while laying it down. Only when both sides match should you blot the water away and let the model dry undisturbed.
The product is a decal sheet, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
