The second part of the sheet with special finishes of British C-130J machines in 1:72 scale. It follows on from the first part and widens the range of unusual color schemes, which appear on transport aircraft only exceptionally and usually only for a limited time. The product is intended for finishing a model that has already been built; it does not hold the model itself. Xtradecal is a British maker of decals specializing in the markings of RAF machines.
Hercules C.5 is the British designation of the shorter length version of the Lockheed C-130J turboprop transport aircraft. Against the older generations of the Hercules it has modernized avionics, more powerful engines and six-blade propellers. In British service these were workhorses of tactical transport — carrying cargo and personnel, dropping paratroops and resupplying on makeshift strips. That is exactly why special finishes are exceptional on this type and attractive to modelers.
The order of the steps is fundamental. Decals belong on finished gloss clear, never on a matte or freshly weathered surface — weathering and matting come after them. Do not overdo the soaking: it is enough to dip the sheet for a few seconds and let it rest on a paper towel until the film releases by itself. Longer soaking washes the adhesive out and the decal then holds badly. With an older sheet that has lain in storage for years it pays to spray a protective coat of clear straight onto the sheet — it will keep the yellowed film from cracking. Once it is dry, use a decal softener, go over any rim with a thin coat of clear, and only then apply dust and traces of service.
