A photo-etched engraving template for the Short Sunderland 1:72 serves for restoring engraved lines that have been lost in sanding and filling. It is a modeling aid, not a part of a model. Intended for the Special Hobby kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A thin etched metal sheet intended as a guide for a scriber when restoring engraved detail on a model of the British Short Sunderland flying boat in 1:72 scale. The template is laid against the surface, held with tape, and the scriber is guided along its edge. It does not stay on the finished model: it is a tool that can be used over and over. The target kit is Special Hobby.
The hull of a flying boat has long joints that are filled and sanded after gluing. Along with the filler, though, the original engraving disappears too, and as soon as it comes to a wash or a panel liner, the missing lines are immediately visible. Restoring them by eye tends to come out wavy and the scriber easily runs off a smooth surface. A metal template holds its shape and takes the line exactly where it belongs.
Attach the template to the part with masking tape so that it does not shift during the scribing. Guide the scriber very lightly and preferably in several passes, because the first pass only marks the track and the next deepens it. Level the resulting burr with a glass fiber pencil or very fine abrasive paper and clean the dust off the area before painting. Keep the etched sheet flat, because a bent template will never guide a scriber accurately again.
This is a modeling aid, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
