This kit from the Japanese maker Pit-Road in the 1:700 ship scale captures the Imperial Japanese Navy destroyer Fubuki, the lead ship of the class of the same name. The wording With Hull Parts in the name means the package also holds the lower hull parts, so the model can be finished as a full-hull build on a stand or as a waterline version for a diorama with a water surface. Fubuki gave her name to the destroyer class that the Imperial Japanese Navy designated the special type and that in its day marked a leap in what was expected of a destroyer. The main armament consisted of 127 mm guns in enclosed twin turrets, which let the crew fight even in heavy weather, and the striking power was completed by triple torpedo mounts for 610 mm torpedoes. High speed and torpedo armament made these ships a feared opponent in night actions. Fubuki was lost in 1942 in the fighting off the Solomon Islands.
Decide between the full-hull and the waterline version right at the start, because the procedure and the mounting of the model follow from it. Separate the small parts of the superstructure, the masts and the torpedo mounts with a very sharp knife and clean up the edges with fine abrasive paper. Spray the hull and superstructure in a base gray, shade the wooden deck areas in a warmer tone and bring out the engraving with a dark wash that runs into the recesses. Bond fine structures made from etched parts, if you buy them separately, with super glue. The finished model shows well on a stand and in a small water scene alike.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
