1:72 Shorts Sunderland Mk.III is an Eduard masking set for a model of the British flying boat in 1:72 scale. These are die-cut templates for the glazed areas, not photo-etched parts, resin or decals.

The item belongs to Eduard's masking range, that is to the group of products which differ in their purpose from full photo-etched sets, pre-painted Zoom sets, the Brassin resin range and decals alike. A mask is not part of the finished model but a tool: self-adhesive paper templates die-cut exactly to the shape of the glazed areas, which are stuck down before spraying and removed once the painting is done. What they leave behind is clean glass and sharply bounded frames.
The Sunderland is a large patrol flying boat with glazing spread along the whole length of the fuselage. Besides the pilot's cockpit it has a row of side windows and bulged observation areas, so the number of masked parts is several times higher than on a single-seat fighter. Cutting tape by hand for that many windows is a lengthy job and the inaccuracies add up along the whole side of the model. A pre-cut set shortens this part of the work to a few tens of minutes and ensures that the frames will be the same width over the whole fuselage.
Work in groups: stick down and spray the windows of one side of the fuselage first, and only then the other side. That way it is easier to keep track that no window has been left without a mask. On bulged areas press the center of the template down first and work the edges out from there, so that the paper does not ripple. It pays to spray over the edges of the mask with a thin coat of clear varnish or of the base color, as that closes the gap and the main shade will not run under the edge. Lift the masks only once the paint has dried, with the help of pointed tweezers.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
