A light blue shade from the acrylic Real Colors range of the AK Interactive brand, carried under the manufacturer part number RC910 and the number FS 35450. The FS number refers to the American chart of shades against which the paint is compared. The name Air Superiority Blue is tied to the single-color light blue finish of American fighters, meant to dissolve a machine optically into the sky. The container holds 17 ml.
Smooth, wash and degrease the area before painting. On greasy plastic an acrylic coat peels away with the masking tape when it is lifted. Stir the container properly, as the pigment settles to the bottom while it stands and unstirred paint comes out lighter. Apply it in several thin coats with a short pause between them. A single heavy coat floods the fine engraving of the panel lines and creates ridges on the edges that are harder to sand off than they were to lay on. Thin it with the thinner intended for this range of paints, as a thinner from another range may curdle the paint into grains. The thinning ratio and the airbrush pressure are in the manufacturer instructions.
Light blue shades have low covering power and change tone over dark plastic and over sanded putty. It pays to unify the base with a light primer and only then lay the color coat on. A single-color finish on a large area reads as flat, so you can brighten the middle of larger panels very slightly with a shade lightened with white. Put masking tape on only over a well dried coat and pull it off slowly, at an angle to the edge.
For modelers who build postwar American aircraft and paint with an airbrush and with a brush. It is a shade on its own; the thinner, primer and clear coat are supplied separately, unless stated otherwise.
