South African Air Force in East Africa decals, Volume I in 1:72 scale from SBS Model - markings of SAAF machines from the little known campaign against Italian East Africa.
Responsibility details are not available.
The first volume of a series of decals from the Hungarian maker SBS Model devoted to the South African Air Force (SAAF) in the fighting in East Africa during the Second World War. The sheet in 1:72 scale opens up to modelers one of the less covered, and all the more interesting, theaters.
The East African campaign of 1940 and 1941 set the forces of the British Commonwealth against the Italian forces in Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia. The South African Air Force played a significant role here - its squadrons supported the advance of the ground troops, attacked enemy airfields and fought duels with Italian fighters. It was in East Africa that the SAAF scored its first air victories of the Second World War and earned a reputation as a tough opponent that could improvise.
Desert and tropical camouflage comes out well under a satin final coat. Apply the decals over a gloss intermediate coat, soak up the excess water with a paper tissue and use a softener to seat them on curved surfaces. Light weathering with dust pigments will give the model the authentic look of an African theater.
This is a stand-alone decal sheet - the aircraft models are not included in the package.
