An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet heavy tank T-35 in 1:72 scale from the Russian manufacturer Zvezda. For the scale it is an unusually broken-down model — the built machine measures roughly 13.5 centimeters in length and the number of parts matches that, above all because of the five turrets and the long running gear.
The T-35 was a Soviet heavy tank of the first half of the 1930s and the only five-turret tank in the world to be series produced. The main turret carried a gun of 76.2 millimeter caliber, two smaller turrets guns of 45 millimeter caliber and the remaining two turrets machine guns. The concept grew out of the idea of the time of the so-called land cruiser, that is, a machine that was to support infantry and break through fortified positions. In practice it turned out to be slow, unreliable and extraordinarily demanding to crew and to maintain. Only a few dozen were built and the overwhelming majority of them were put out of action by technical faults during the movements of 1941, not by combat. Thanks to its unmistakable silhouette the T-35 remains one of the most characteristic armored vehicles of the interwar period.
Finish and paint the running gear and the side skirts before you close them in — once the hull is glued you will no longer get at them. It is practical to leave the turrets freely rotating and not to glue them permanently, as they are then easier to paint. A single-color green finish suits shading of the large surfaces and fine highlighting of the edges with a dry brush. Build the patina up gradually: a dark wash into the hollows and the seams, then dust pigments on the running gear and the lower part of the hull. On such a broken-down machine it is precisely the dirt that brings the model to life.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
