Decals mapping the machines flown during the war by the most successful Polish fighter pilot, Stanislaw Skalski. A single sheet covers several types from different theaters.
Responsibility details are not available.
Stanislaw Skalski began the war in September 1939 on a propeller-driven monoplane of domestic design and ended it as the commander of a wing equipped with American fighters. In between he passed through British squadrons on Hurricanes and Spitfires, and in 1943 in North Africa he led a volunteer group of Polish pilots that was nicknamed Skalski's Circus. With a tally that none of his countrymen surpassed, he returned home after the war, where arrest and a long imprisonment awaited him. Rehabilitation came only in the second half of the 1950s.
The set does not follow one machine but the pilot's career. The motifs therefore cover several different aircraft, each with the relevant squadron codes, personal markings and the national insignia of whichever air force it was. That is exactly why it also suits modelers who are building a themed display case about one man rather than about one unit.
Because the sheet serves several types, check the shade of the base for each subject. British schemes from the start of the war differ from the desert finishes and from the later silver surfaces, and a thin film behaves differently on each of them. On smooth gloss varnish the motif settles without edges; on a rougher surface it pays to work it in with a decal softener.
You get a printed sheet for this size. You choose the model according to which stage of the pilot's service you want to build.
