Deep Sea Blue - AIR (AK Interactive, acrylic 17 ml)

A paint from the 3rd Generation Acrylics AIR range, a water-thinnable acrylic in a 17 ml bottle. Deep Sea Blue is a very dark, deep blue that reads as almost black, typical of American carrier aircraft. It sprays like a lacquer, is thinned with water or with acrylic thinner and is non-toxic and not flammable.

History and use of the shade

The deep dark blue was worn by US Navy carrier aircraft at the end of the Second World War and after it. In the later period an overall dark blue finish prevailed, which hid the machines well over the water and against the shadow of the deck. The shade is therefore characteristic of the carrier fighter and attack types of this period.

Use and thinning

• Applied with a brush or an airbrush, from the bottle or thinned with water.
• Thinned with water or acrylic thinner, never with lacquer or cellulose thinner.
• Self-leveling, fast drying, barely dries at the nozzle.
• Suitable for overall dark blue models, where an even coat shows to advantage.
