An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Sturmgeschütz 40 assault gun in the Ausf. G version, in the form matching 1942, that is, the start of production of this variant. The 1:72 model comes from the Ukrainian maker UM, which concentrates on military equipment in the small scales and often offers types that are missing elsewhere. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Ausf. G version was the most numerously produced form of the whole Sturmgeschütz III family and became the symbol of German assault guns at the end of the war. It was built on the chassis of the Panzer III medium tank and carried its 75 mm weapon in a fixed casemate with no rotating turret, which meant a lower silhouette and simpler, cheaper production, but also the need to turn the whole vehicle onto a target. Early examples from 1942 differ from the later ones in a number of details: the shape of the casemate, the form of the shield for the machine gun and the fittings on the superstructure. Assault guns originally served for the direct support of infantry, but as the number of enemy tanks grew they were used more and more as a defensive anti-tank weapon.
The small scale puts the stress on cleanliness: separate the parts with nippers, true the sprue nubs with a scalpel and glue with thin cement for plastic so that it does not run over the detail. Assemble the running gear and the wheels to a jig, so that the tracks do not sit twisted. We recommend painting over a primer, laying the base on with an airbrush and spraying any camouflage in thin coats of thinned paint. A dark wash in the engraved lines and dust pigments on the lower hull and the running gear come at the end. On versions with Schürzen side skirts, take care that they hang parallel to the hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
