A photo-etched metal set for refining the surface details of a model of the Sukhoi Su-27 fighter aircraft in 1:72 scale. The package contains a photo-etched fret with parts that replace or supplement elements which cannot be molded faithfully in injection-molded plastic. The set is not a model of the aircraft in itself; it is intended to finish off a kit of the corresponding scale that you have already bought. The photo-etched fret is prepared for the Zvezda kit.
The Su-27 is a twin-engine heavy fighter aircraft of Soviet origin, brought into service in the 1980s. It was designed as a machine for winning air superiority with a long range and it carries a characteristic integrated aerodynamic layout, in which the fuselage blends smoothly into the wing. The type became the basis of an extensive family of derived versions and remains in service with a number of users. On such a large aircraft every simplification of the molding shows in 1:72 scale, which is why the set aims at surfaces with fine relief and at thin elements.
Separate the photo-etched parts with a scalpel against a hard surface, and never tear them out. Make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool or over the edge of a steel ruler. For gluing to plastic use cyanoacrylate glue in a minimal amount, as ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on metal. Before painting, degrease the metal with alcohol and apply a thin metal primer. It is best to fit the set before closing the fuselage and before the main coat, so that the parts can still be fine-tuned.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the model of the aircraft itself are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
