An injection-molded plastic kit of the American carrier-borne torpedo bomber TBF/TBM-1C Avenger in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Hobby 2000, themed on the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944. The package combines good plastic originating from Hasegawa with masks for the glazing and decals for machines from that famous naval battle; unlike the basic edition it is therefore defined by a particular historical deployment.
The Grumman TBF Avenger was a three-seat carrier-borne torpedo bomber of the US Navy; the license-built versions out of General Motors production carried the designation TBM. In the Battle of Leyte Gulf, one of the largest naval engagements in history, the Avengers played a key role in attacks on the Japanese formations; among the markings of this edition is also a machine from the escort carrier USS Gambier Bay.
The plastic from Hasegawa is rewarding, but dry-fit the fuselage all the same. Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement, stick the masks supplied onto the framed greenhouse of the cabin and the dorsal turret, unify the base with primer and apply the paint with an airbrush. Late-war naval schemes are typified by a three-tone blue-gray camouflage with pronounced wear from carrier operations; paint rub-through, exhaust streaks and a wash in the panels will give the machine a combat-worn look.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
