Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the launcher of the American THAAD missile defense system in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. It is a sizeable assembly built on the chassis of a heavy cross-country truck, on which the container with the missiles is carried. The model is an unusual addition among modern military vehicles and on a shelf it looks different from the usual tanks and armored personnel carriers.
THAAD is an American missile defense system intended to engage ballistic missiles in the terminal phase of flight at high altitude. The missile carries no warhead; it destroys its target by direct impact, that is by kinetic energy. A battery consists of launchers on heavy truck chassis, a radar, a fire control station and support equipment. The whole set is designed to be mobile so that it can be moved and deployed in a new area; for firing, the launch container is raised into an inclined position and it lies horizontally when being moved. The system has been in operational service since the end of the first decade of this century.
Work from the chassis: glue the frame, the axles and the wheels first and let them cure on a flat surface so that the model stands without rocking. Paint the tires separately before you fit them, as that gives a clean transition to the rims. The base shade is a uniform military finish, so the result is decided by tonal modulation and weathering: after a gloss coat apply the decals, then a dark wash in the engraved lines, fine lightening of the edges and finally dust and buildup on the underside of the chassis. If the instructions offer the raised position of the launch container, it is more striking in a display case than the traveling one.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
