A set of pre-cut masks in 1:72 scale for the two-seat Tupolev Tu-128M interceptor, known by the reporting name Fiddler. It is not a kit but an aid for painting: the masks are stuck onto the glazed areas of the model, those are sprayed over with the framing color, and once they come off a sharp edge is left. The Tu-128 is a large machine, so even in 1:72 scale the model comes out sizable and its tandem canopy with two separate sections is very much on show. Neither the exact number of pieces in the set nor the material of the masks is stated here.
A two-seat cockpit means twice as many frames as a single-seat fighter, plus the windshield and the transitional glazing between the two positions. The frames are straight in shape and fairly thin, so every inaccuracy on them is immediately apparent. Pre-cut masks follow the shape of the particular panes, which gives the frame the same width on both sections of the canopy and makes it look like a single whole. The set also deals only with the glazing; masks for the wheels are a separate item from this brand.
Degrease the glazing and rid it of dust. Lift the masks off with tweezers, lay them down dry and press them with a wooden point, above all in the corners. First spray the interior shade of the frames, then the external color, so that the frame matches inside and out. Spray thin coats at lower pressure, so that the paint does not build up under the edge of a mask. Take the masks off shortly after drying with an angled pull. It is practical to glue the glazed parts to the model only after spraying, using cement for canopies, which does not fog the glass. If you are building the model with the canopy open, do not forget to spray the framing on the inside of the opened sections as well.
The package holds the masking set for the glazing only. The model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
