A set of accurately shaped self-adhesive painting masks of fine Japanese washi tape (kabuki masks) for a plastic model of the Soviet Tupolev Tu-16 bomber in the K-10 version, in 1:72 scale. This is neither a model nor an aircraft part but an aid for spraying the glazing and further areas cleanly. The BASIC version is the basic level of the set: it holds masks for the glazed windows and further clear parts, and wheel masks.

The real subject

The Tupolev Tu-16, NATO reporting name Badger, was a Soviet twin-engine jet bomber of the 1950s, used as a carrier of bombs and of guided missiles and in the reconnaissance role. The Tu-16K-10 version, designated Badger C by NATO, was adapted to carry a large anti-ship guided missile and carried a distinctive search radar in the nose.

How to use the masks

• Clean and degrease the clear parts and seat the mask exactly on the glazing frames.
• Press the edges down firmly so that paint cannot get underneath, then spray with an airbrush or a spray can.
• Apply thin coats and take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried.
• The wheel masks let the tire be separated cleanly from the rim.
