A kit of the four-wheeled armored car that served in the US Army under the designation M706. Trumpeter has this type in 1:72 in several boxings, and this one corresponds to the improved version known as Product Improved. The smaller scale lets you build a whole convoy in the space where a single vehicle in 1:35 would fit into the display case.
The Commando was a light armored car with all-wheel drive, designed for patrol and escort duty. It proved itself protecting convoys and guarding airfields, because it moved quickly on the road and protected the crew against small-arms fire and splinters. The hull shaped into a wedge shed water and blast alike, and the vehicle could handle shallow fords as well. Besides the US Army the type was also used by police and security forces in a number of other countries.
The wheels and the suspension will take the most work. Paint the tires separately from the rims and dust them lightly, because they are what tells you on a finished vehicle whether the machine has been anywhere. Lighten the base olive shade on the horizontal surfaces where the sun would have dried it out, and pick out the engraved hatches with a thin line. Leave the vision ports and headlights until last and protect them with masking fluid.
The vehicle is supplied as parts to be glued together, not as a finished model.
