Self-adhesive masking templates for a model of the Tupolev Tu-2 twin-engined bomber in the torpedo version, in 1:72. The set covers spraying the glazing and the wheels: the templates are cut to the shape of the individual panels, laid onto finished glazing and taken off after spraying. It is not a photo-etched set or decals; the package holds masks.
The Tu-2 was a Soviet twin-engined bomber with radial engines, twin vertical tail surfaces and a glazed nose. It appeared in the course of the Second World War and served long after it. The torpedo version was adapted for use over the sea and carried its weapon on an external rack under the fuselage. The model has extensive glazing on both the cockpit and the nose, so masking is the most time-consuming part of painting it.
Clean and degrease the glazing, as a greasy surface holds a mask less well and paint will run under it. Lift the template off with tweezers and lay it on dry; press the edges down with a blunt stick so that they follow the line of the frame exactly. Apply the paint in several thin coats and let it set between them — one heavy coat will run under the mask. On multi-part glazing work piece by piece, which keeps things easier to follow. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried. On the wheels, stick the circular template onto the tire and spray the hub; the border then comes out sharp with no touching up.
This is an add-on to a model, not a kit in its own right. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
